Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
